    Kia Stinger Oil Thread

That looks good -- Kia mentioned, so the filter housings must be very similar if not identical. Thanks winningGT.

    Kia Stinger Oil Thread

I'm not sure how the turbos are lubed and cooled in detail, but turbos are hell on oil because of the extreme heat. By doubling the crankcase capacity and calling for 6K oil changes, that is, in effect, a normal crankcase capacity change at 3K equivalent. In addition the extra volume allows...

    Kia Stinger Age Demographics

Mere children, ya are. How do you kids even get driver's licenses? I've seen my share of skidpads at 74. :-)

Lower top speed with all season tires???

That sounds reasonable. The tire speed "codes" are in the owners manual (which is available online for those of us waiting .... waiting .... waiting....)

Are racing stripes on the Kia Stinger still in?

I come from many years back - probably the oldest Stinger fan on this forum. As I posted elsewhere, in my early car days, there was a "sleeper" fad. We stuffed huge engines into plain-Jane cars, or took all the ID off our cars (I turned my '70 Plymouth GTX into a "Belvedere"). It wasn't a...

    Location?

This is the first post in this forum so I'll ask for approximate location. I'm in the 4-corner area of Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. No Stingers on the road that I know of. Mine is due in early March '18.

    Kia Stinger Drivetrain Break-in 101

A agree with most of the OP, thanks for sharing your process. I've always been very picky about break-in, which makes me a bit uneasy to know that the dealer service includes a 4-5 mile test drive by mechanics. Does anyone know what they do during that test drive and how the car is driven...

Car and Driver In Depth Review

I think the key is that it is designed as a GT, not a sports car. Big difference in engineering philosophy. A GT is intended for long distance driving. A sports car is made to throw around an obstacle course with no consideration to creature comforts and a sparsity of amenities. The Stinger...

    oil changes

I've used a small curved plastic shield cut from a plastic jug or bottle on my other cars. It looks as if you would be better off buying a dedicated wrench for that 27mm plastic nut housing. No fun taking those panels off, either. The pop pins quickly wear out with repeated use.

    Kia Stinger Key FOB Part#

Thanks. Got the battery replacement from the manual (nice to have an online manual available to digest before the car gets here). Any reports of problems with RFI around airports (I park my car at airport parking lots frequently). I don't see an "alternate" method of starting the car if the...

    Kia Stinger Key FOB Part#

Sorry for a newbie question -- my GT1 is on order. Do you get two smart keys with the car, or just one? Are the batteries in the key user-replacable? I know my GM keys last for years, but they aren't as "smart" and only load the battery when pressed. The "smart key" apparently needs to be...

Kia Stinger Out The Door Price Thread

Update after my rant from yesterday. I found a dealer who will order me a GT1 at $1,000 under MSRP. Huge differences between quotes on this car - over $2,500. Just couldn't see the $5,000 value difference between the GT2 and the GT1 just for the seat and a couple other minor things. I won't...

Winter Tires, Gas, & Alternative Logos

In general, name-brand fuels have additives that help reduce deposits. I'd still use the Techron or Kia equivalent at oil change intervals. Higher octane fuels burn more slowly which is needed to prevent pre-ignition. The use of lower octane fuel is forcing the spark advance to retard and...

Kia Stinger Out The Door Price Thread

Well, I own two of the Holden masterpieces -- an '05 GTO 6-speed, and the -08 G8 GT. The GTO will probably die with me. Both have been totally repair-free. Perfectly amazing cars.

    Snow Tires vs Summer Tires

I've had summer performance tires on my G8 GT for 10 years - several brands - Pirelli, Michelin, Potenza. Never had a problem, but winters here are seldom below teens.

Kia Stinger Out The Door Price Thread

Looking at Kelly Blue Book, the difference between the MSRP on the sticker and dealer invoice on a Stinger is about $3,000 depending on the model. That of course does NOT include all the other "under the table" kickbacks for quotas, dealer incentives and several other programs that they...

Kia Stinger Out The Door Price Thread

I looked at CarMax but there are no dealers within 100 miles of me. Very discouraging but also limited stock. Wanted a GT1 Red AWD and there are none anywhere around. They are all GT2 or black. I can't see the extra $4,000 for the seats in the GT2 which is about the only difference. Too...

Kia Stinger Out The Door Price Thread

I was very discouraged today trying to get bids on a GT1 AWD. Two dealers refused to quote me a price on my trade-in. ("We'll price that when your Stinger arrives.") One quote so far on the Stinger that was only $524 below MSRP here in the U.S. Terribly disappointed, but maybe that's the...

    fuel

Thanks for the practical feedback, Bubbabiker. The Kia salesman mentioned something about using an additive every 10K but didn't say what it was. I figured it was something sold by Kia at a huge profit. I've never used or needed anything like that on my GM small-blocks (LS2 and LS96). Is...

AWD vs. RWD on a GT?

Unfortunately, both my current rides are RWD ('05 Pontiac GTO and '08 Pontiac G8 GT) which are nearly worthless in the winter with their big, wide tires, so AWD on my GT1 is one reason I went that way. Depends on where you live. From what I've seen, unless you really want to thrash the car on...
