    I test drove both, ended up with the GT. I'm really glad I made that decision because the extra power is so much fun.

    Yes that's how the system is supposed to work. I can't remember that exact number of systems the car monitors but let's say if you are using the A/C and the car senses the voltage is getting low it'll restart the car to charge the battery even though you don't move your foot off the brakes.
